Since the end of January, I have been working hard on my University project. This was a 15,000 word research report, where I chose to focus on the Impacts of Social Media on Employees. Nearly 4 months later and after hours of hard work and reading what feels like hundreds of articles, reports, press releases, IT magazines, journals, news articles and books, it has been printed, bound and handed in. Although it was stressful at times, seeing it all come together made it worth it. I would like to thank everyone who answered my survey and sat through in-depth interviews, as I would not have been able to do it without this help.

Before my project is officially complete, I have to attend a project defence. This involves talking through my work with two markers and answering any questions they have. Hopefully this goes well and the marks come back quickly!

As a result of working hard on my project, I feel I have somewhat abandoned my blog. I am looking forward to writing regularly again and will make sure to blog about the findings of my report, once it has been fully marked.

I am also focusing my time on looking for jobs, ideally in social media. It is exciting to have almost finished University, although a little daunting after being in education for 16 years.

For anyone interested in social media and who likes reading, I would definitely recommend the following books!

  1. The New Rules of Marketing & PR – David Meerman Scott.
  2. Winners & Losers, Creators & Casualties of the Age of the Internet – Kieran Levis.
  3. Socialnomics – Erik Qualman.
  4. The New Community Rules: Marketing on the Social Web – Tamar Weinberg.
  5. Social Media at Work – Jue, Marr and Kassotakis.
